WHY USE A REMOTE DBA?
A good DBA is worth his/her weight in gold. However, affording a DBA can be difficult. By using a Remote DBA, you can obtain the same high skill and care at a fraction of the cost of hiring your own.

WHY IS A REMOTE DBA CHEAPER?
There's an old truism that a good DBA has to know how to look busy. That's because the better a DBA is, the more smoothly systems run, and consequently the less busy the DBA is on a daily ba-sis. Once this point has been achieved, the DBA becomes an insurance policy, that is, available whenever needed. A remote DBA provides the same insurance and dedication to your requirements at only a fraction of the cost.

ARE YOUR DBAS AS GOOD AS THE ONES I'D HIRE MYSELF?
The DBAs we use all have many years of experience supporting production systems. Many of them are recognized leaders in their field and have written articles, taught classes, and mentored other DBAs.

CAN YOU REALLY MONITOR A SYSTEM JUST AS WELL FROM A REMOTE LOCATION?
Yes!
Just as a database engine (SQL Server or Oracle) allows users to query the database from any location, the engine also allows database administrators to perform their functions remotely. Administrators no longer have to sit in front of a server. Instead, servers can be securely stored in a data center, while the administrator monitors it via the network.

WHAT'S YOUR STRENGTH? WHY SHOULD I USE YOUR COMPANY?
Other companies believe in technology. We believe in people. Our services are all provided by very experienced, dedicated DBAs. All of our DBAs use tools and technology to make the job easier, however, they also use their considerable talent to analyze and understand your environment in a way that no mere automated system can.

WHAT DATABASE PRODUCTS DO YOU SUPPORT?
We support Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle. We plan on supporting other database engines in the future.

CAN YOU BE MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT HOW THE SERVICE WORKS?
Database administration covers the following categories; backup and contingencies, security, per-formance tuning, and design (writing queries or creating schemas). We provide all the expected services of a DBA, and in addition we also provide training, mentoring, and strategic advice on database trends.
At the start of the engagement, a service level agreement is created that clarifies what in-house staff will cover versus what what DB Directions will be responsible for, the hours we will cover the systems, and an agreed upon response time. We will also map out a detailed escalation plan, so that we only make changes in your system in the situations you want us to.
A primary DBA will then be assigned to your account. His/her responsibility will be to become as familiar with the intricacies of your environment as an internal DBA. We will also install scripts that will allow us to monitor the heartbeat of your system and gather valuable statistics to provide you further insight into your database performance and growth. Though you will have a primary DBA, our whole staff will be available when necessary to support your needs.

WHAT DON'T YOU COVER AS PART OF YOUR SERVICE?
Since we are not physically at your site, we cannot change tapes or turn off the power to servers or other devices.
