We hate being heroes. We much prefer being proactive and avoiding problems in the first place. We believe that excellence in database administration means being able to catch potential issues before they become problems by understanding performance and usage trends.
We love thoroughly tested backups. We strongly recommend a hot backup system (i.e. a system in which the backups have already been restored) and supply the necessary expertise to establish such a system. We sympathize with poor DBAs who discover their backups didn't work just when they most need them, but we don't want to experience it ourselves.
